Five startups have graduated as part of its tenth class, the startup accelerator Urban-X, launched by venture capital fund Urban Us and BMW’s Mini to support companies that solve urban problems with state-of-the-art technologies.

At an online event held on Tuesday, the companies showcased their products in front of a live audience of investors, consumers and public sector leaders. Each of these firms completed the 20-week program of Urban-X – which provided access to the BMW Group’s design, engineering and brand experts and consumer development, product development, go-to-market and fundraising guides – and wants to tackle it. . Problems faced by the urban environment, from the need for talent in climate-tech companies to the problems associated with recycling.

Urban-X has also invested at least $ 100,000 in each of the group’s startups. This growth comes at a time when global investors’ interest in both climate and urban technology companies is growing. According to Constructive Capital, urban tech startups raised a record $ 31.6 billion by October 2021 – 4.4 times more than they did five years ago in 2016.

“The good news is that the urgency to work is not overlooked, and there is no shortage of attractive companies bringing new ideas to the table and rethinking our future. We need better federal policy and more transparent and long-term market signals to sustain this growth. Over the past five years, we’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most compelling companies facing our toughest challenges, and we don’t expect it to slow down anytime soon, “said Micah Koch X, managing director of URBAN, VentureBeat.
