Cato recently announced the launch of its redesigned backend event architecture. Cato Management app announces 103 improvements and new features, with the company claiming to be the first SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) platform to independently evaluate and test the regulatory compliance and security capabilities of cloud applications. Other additions include Cloud Application Catalog, Threats Dashboard and Application Analytics Dashboard.

According to Cato, the goal of handling its top-down overhaul was to improve query analytics for site metrics to make the process more efficient and the interface more responsive. There is also a new event pipeline to increase the event recovery volume while allowing NetOps and NetSecOps to export more specific and only required events.

Cato has stepped in, as the restructuring and expansion of its management application comes on the heels of raising millions of dollars less than six months ago. Gartner recently posted its annual forecasts predicting that by 2025, 40% of enterprise software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) and cloud-distributed secure web gateways (SWG) will be adopted from the same vendor, down from less than 5% in 2021. Were. .

“Most vendors ask you to build your own road or force you to build different roads for different vehicles. The enterprise then needs to combine different products that may not work well together. Or you can have what Cato delivers on a single cloud service, “said Atte Maore, senior director of Cato Networks, who agrees with Gartner’s forecast.

ML algorithms for compliance verification

Cato also claims to be the first independent verification of application compliance using machine learning algorithms. These algorithms work against Cato’s Data Lake of Flow metadata to analyze the features of applications on the network. Currently, Cato regulatory compliance testing includes HIPAA, PCI and SOC 1-3. Security features include MFA, the rest of the time data encryption and SSO. Compliance is an expensive and complex area and it will be interesting to see if other platforms add similar features.

Cato’s management app restructuring has added a cloud app catalog with 5,000 of the most common enterprise apps, and the company says thousands more are added to the catalog each month. For each application, the list includes a description of the target application, which is automatically generated by the proprietary data mining service, and an independently verified risk score.

There’s also a new Threats dashboard designed to summarize insights gained from Cato’s managed IPS, FWaaS, SWG and anti-malware services. Through a single dashboard, security teams should be able to see the top threats across the enterprise. The drill-down timeline allows security teams to gather more insights so users can hopefully identify affected individuals and endpoints.
