Microsoft and Nintendo seem closer. But despite their corporate romance, these are still companies that want to do what is best for themselves. And if you look at their relationship through that lens, it’s easy to understand why the GoldenI007 remaster is coming to Xbox soon.

A number of leaks have suggested that an improved version of the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 is coming to Xbox. A list of achievements appeared on Xbox Live like a handful of screenshots. But circumstantial evidence for the deal was already in place, and it was easy to assume that this would happen.

To understand how GoldenEye 007 reappeared, you need to know that Microsoft studio Rare Ltd. – Former Nintendo partner – was working on the GoldenEye remaster for the Xbox Live Arcade in the late 2000’s. Viral completed the project and was ready to release it. Microsoft also took legal action against him Bond Copyright holder MGM and GoldenEye 007 copyright holder Nintendo. But at the last minute, Nintendo changed its mind. According to people familiar with the deal, the result was that Nintendo did not want to release one of its games on the Xbox.

So the game never came out except for the leaked version in early 2021. But by January 2022, Fast Forward had changed and Nintendo’s position had changed. The company wants to encourage more people to subscribe to its Nintendo Switch online expansion pack service for 50 per year. The Nintendo 64 games are key to that sales pitch, and Rare represents a significant portion of the most memorable games from that library.

That means Nintendo needs something from Microsoft, which gave the Xbox team the bargaining chip needed to get the greenlight again for the GoldenI007.

GoldenEye 007 gives Xbox the required boost

While Xbox boss Phil Spencer wants to stay on friendly terms with Nintendo, he is also eyeing the long road to E3.

Xbox is getting stronger in 2021 with Age of Empires IV, Syconotes 2, Forza Horizon 5 and Hello Infinite, but the pace of release is slowing. In terms of big games, the Xbox is looking at Arkane’s Redfall in the summer, Forza Motorsport 8 and Starfield in November. But what does he have until he starts quitting sports?

Well, the Xbox really only needs to go to E3. Until then, it could begin to lean on Starfield marketing and promises for 2023.

Before E3, though, the Xbox didn’t have much. Stalker 2 is scheduled for April 28, and Obsidian should release Grounded 1.0. Those projects alone, however, are not enough to prevent people from feeling a little uncomfortable for new content. That’s where the remaster for GoldenEye 007 fits. It’s a classic that many gamers remember fondly or hear others speak in glowing words.

That makes the potential GoldenEye 007 announcement something that could be sidelined on the Xbox.

That’s when WWE shocked everyone by bringing back an old wrestler during the Royal Rumble as a surprise. It won’t fix the story-telling week-by-week Monday Night Row, But provocative returns generate enough momentum to take spectators to WrestleMania.

Goldeneye’s return will get a big pop from fans, and that’s the point. If fans forget all about it after a few months, well – by then, we’ll all be heading towards E3, the gaming WrestleMania.
