re:Invent recap: Amazon showcases cloud computing innovation

Hear from the CIO, CTO and other C-level and senior executives on data and AI strategies at the Future of Work Summit on January 12, 2022. Learn more

Amazon held its 10th Re: Event Conference this week. This year’s annual event in Las Vegas, as well as an online event, showcases new technologies designed to support its Amazon Web Services (AWS) arm, one of the leading platforms for cloud computing.

Tech giant’s first AWS re: Invent in 2012 was a humble occasion with just over 6,000 participants, dominated by startups and emerging technology partners. Fast-forward to 2021: It is now a well-attended conference for industry’s top IT executives and technical decision makers.

The individual event featured keynote speakers, announcements about its latest technological innovations, as well as training and certification opportunities.

Amazon made the latest announcement of what it has to offer, but some announcements came to the center. Below is a comprehensive overview of VentureBeat’s coverage on the top news of AWS re: Invent 2021.

Simple machine learning, AI, robotics and data lex

Adam Selipsky, CEO of AWS, unveiled news of Accelerated Chips, Simple Machine Learning Models, Fortified Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Technology, Data Lex and more.

“We’re making it easier to prepare and collect data for machine learning in order to train models faster and expand machine learning to a wider audience,” said Selipsky. “It will really enable a whole new group of users to take advantage of their data and use machine learning to create new business insights.”

Announcements following Selipsky’s keynote will only promote that statement. AWS re: Invent 2021 is largely focused on tools that both provide strong data and analytics infrastructure and promote efficiency for users of many tools on Amazon’s cloud computing platform.

Securing an influential platform in the cloud computing industry

As the cloud computing industry grows rapidly, so does the demand for faster, more efficient developer-friendly tools. Cyber security threats and ransomware are rampant and growing. Against this background, AWS announced automation to manage vulnerabilities on its platform to address critical security needs in the cloud.

The coronavirus epidemic has led to an increase in the use of cloud-native tech and platforms for companies across all industries with the goal of increasing digitization. In an interview, VentureBeat listened to the concerns and perspectives of 10 startup companies on AWS security. Key solution: The most significant advantages of cloud security include lower cost and lower demand for resources than on-premises security.

Pushing the boundaries of simulation, quantum tech and beyond

Amid growing popularity of digital twin simulation, the company also announced IoT TwinMaker and IoT FleetWise for AWS. Tools are designed with user accessibility in mind: making it easier and more cost-effective to innovate. Its IoT TwinMaker allows developers to easily create digital twins of real-time systems, such as factories, industrial equipment, product lines, and more. The IoT FleetWise tool is specifically designed for automakers to efficiently collect, convert and transfer vehicle data to the cloud at a faster rate.

In addition, Amazon announced the doubling of AWS ‘Cloud Quantum offer, also known as Bracket, in the Quantum Computing Arena.

Brackets allow users to write quantum algorithms and lease time on quantum processors without commitment. Again: At Invent 2021, AWS shared that its bracket service can now run quantum algorithms as hybrid jobs. For now, there is no integration with many other tools, but as quantum computing grows in accessibility and popularity, this integration is likely to be announced at a future conference.

With such rapid growth in both its AWS re: Invent conference and the tech featured in it over the last 10 years, AWS re: Invent will undoubtedly pave the way in 2032, given the innovations that will come in the next 10 years. The path to further change in the technology industry – a change that minds have not yet thought possible.
