Ubisoft partners with Aleph.im on blockchain games

Join Gaming Leaders for their 2nd Annual GamesBeat and Facebook Gaming Summit, with GamesBeat and Facebook Gaming | GamesBeat: Into the Metaverse 2 This coming January 25-27, 2022. Learn more about the event.

Aleph.im has partnered with Ubisoft to bring nonfungable tokens (NFTs) to play in Triple-A games like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Aleph.im is a cross-blockchain decentralized storage and computing network, and it provides
Decentralized storage for dynamic NFTs on Ubisoft’s new blockchain-powered platform Ubisoft Quartz. Aleph.im provides reliable computing services without a server, a cloud platform delivered with a file
Storage, and database hosting for its users.

Players will receive dynamic NFTs known as digits on quartz that will be used in Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. For the first time in mainstream video games, players will be able to claim playable NFTs that represent in-game assets such as weapons, equipment and more.

These digits are meant to play in the game but they also enable players to put on sale when they are
Select on Rarible and Objkt to buy other character players.

NFTs are set to close in 2021 as fashion designers, artists and game companies begin to use them as new ways to monetize things like digital collections. But they also get a lot of pushback from gamers for a variety of reasons.

I asked Didier Genevois, the blockchain technical director at Ubisoft, about pushback.

“We’ve received a lot of feedback since the announcement, and we’re hearing both encouragement and concerns,” Genevois said. “We understand where the spirit for technology comes from, and we need to keep that in mind at every step. This experiment is to understand how our players can receive and accept the value proposition of decentralization. ,

Genevois added, “We know this is a big change that will take time, but we will stick to our three principles: use technology responsibly: create a safe environment for players to achieve these new possibilities; Just take advantage of the energy-efficient, proof-of-stack blockchain; And focus on meaningful value proposals for players that benefit their gaming experience. “

As the industry booms, video game developers are becoming increasingly interested in blockchain gaming, opening up more possibilities for their players to engage with their favorite games.

Blockchain gaming with integrated NFTs enables players to own and trade their own assets. It also enables game developers to generate more revenue for similar games.

As a technology partner, Aleph.im will offer a decentralized storage solution for Ubisoft Quartz. NFT metadata will be stored on Aleph.im’s fully decentralized storage system of more than 70 nodes, while all NFT ownership will be tracked on the Tezos blockchain.

Through its microVMs, Aleph.im will be able to securely store and generate this NFT’s metadata, such as current and previous owners’ names, item descriptions, and attached video of the object.
This will allow anyone to reliably check the history of item metadata which will be incredibly useful for Rarible and Objkt.

“The inclusion of NFTs in the mainstream game is a revolutionary moment for NFTs,” Aleph.im CEO Jonathan Schamoul said in a statement. “Dynamic NFTs have never been done before and this is the first time that NFTs have evolved over time as different players use them in the game. Aleph.im is proud to be at the forefront of this new era where blockchain technology and decentralized solutions for NFTs play a major role in traditional gaming.

The companies said that by eliminating reliance on centralized institutions, NFT-backed digital assets become more efficient, secure and private, thus reducing the risk of hacks and other cyber attacks.

While traditional NFTs are largely static and will not change attributes depending on each proprietary transfer, Aleph.im’s evolutionary technology has changed the game by enabling dynamic creation.
NFTs with metadata that evolve as they are transferred from player to player.

Aleph.im’s technology will allow players to view information that players have previously owned, including players’ names and achievements.

“With Ubisoft Quartz, we are taking the first step to take advantage of Blockchain’s decentralized approach to open up new opportunities for our players by making them true partners in our games,” Genevois said. “In order to fulfill the promise of technology, we need players who actually own their digits and can leave them.
Mark in their favorite game. Aleph.im’s role was key in building this experiment by allowing us to decentralize the storage of digital video assets and metadata. “

Ubisoft studied this blockchain technology for four years in close collaboration with leading experts in in-house research and development and startup ecosystems. Earlier this year, Ubisoft established a core channel node on the Aleph.im decentralized computer network, as decentralized storage of valuable metadata appears to be the decisive factor for Ubisoft to enable blockchain to fulfill its promise.
